The Sutter County Clerk-Recorder's office is a Passport Acceptance Facility. Our staff will accept and verify the information needed for the passport application and forward it to the Passport Processing Center. When processed, the passport will then be mailed to you from the Passport Processing Center.

The Sutter County Clerk-Recorder's office now offers walk-in passport services Monday through Friday, except for legal holidays or as otherwise noted. Services are offered on a first come-first served basis. As current demand is high, we do not guarantee all customers will be seen the same day. You should be prepared for a possible longer wait time, and we encourage you to plan accordingly.

NOTE:

  1. All applicants (including all minors) must be present if submitting application - no exceptions.
  2. All necessary paperwork should be completed and ready to present before arrival.
  3. If all paperwork and necessary items are not completed and present, other customers may be served first.

Did you know you can renew your passport yourself? Even if it expired up to 5 years ago, you can fill the information out and mail it off from home!

Definition of a Passport

A passport is an internationally recognized travel document attesting to the identity and nationality of the bearer. A passport indicates that its bearer is entitled to receive the protection and assistance of the diplomatic and consular officer of their country while abroad. In essence, it is a request on the part of the issuing government that officials of foreign governments permit the bearer to travel or sojourn (take temporary residence) in their territories and afford them all lawful aid and protection.

Definition of a Passport Card

Passport CardThe passport card is a wallet-sized card that can only be used for land and sea travel between the United States and Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda. The card will provide a less expensive, smaller, and more convenient alternative to the passport book for those who travel frequently to these destinations by land or by sea.

The passport card cannot be used for international air travel. The passport card, however, is Real ID compliant and can be used for domestic air travel.

Who May Be Issued a U.S. Passport?

A U.S. passport may be issued to a citizen or national of the United States.

A person who is not a U.S. citizen or national should apply for documentation to a representative of the country in which that person is a citizen and should contact the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service for requirements to reenter the United States.
