Planning Services acts as the lead agency for Sutter County, in administering the Surface Mining and Reclamation Act of 1975 (SMARA) which provides regulation for extracting and reclamation of mineral resources within the County.  This includes oversight of existing mining operations, permitting of new mines, and reclamation of mine sites.
