When a child is removed from their parents or guardian due to safety concerns in the home, concurrent planning begins. Concurrent planning is a process of having two plans simultaneously, a plan of family reunification and a plan of adoption or guardianship in case reunification is not an option. California Department of Social Services (CDSS) – Adoptions unit is involved from the beginning so when reunification is no longer an option permanency through adoption or guardianship is not prolonged.

Sutter County Children’s Services Branch, Child Welfare Services works collaboratively with California Department of Social Services (CDSS) to find adoptive homes for Sutter County dependent children.

The Adoption Assistance Program (AAP) provides funds and medical coverage to adoptive parents to assist them in meeting the basic and special needs of their adopted children. If eligible, AAP benefits may continue to age 21.
