Emergency and Disaster Preparedness Tips

Disasters can strike at any time and without warning.  It is important to know which types of disasters could impact you here in Sutter County.  

 Action 1: Make a plan with your family or those you live with

Things to consider in building your plan:

  1. Sign up for CodeRED and Know Your Zone
  2. Designate a meeting point if your family or household are separated
  3. Gather an emergency preparedness kit
  4. Designate a couple places to evacuate to
  5. Determine options for evacuation routes
  6. Appoint an out-of-area emergency contact
  7. Develop a family emergency plan

Action 2: Build an emergency preparedness kit

In the event of an emergency or natural or human-caused disaster, it helps to have important items ready to go.  Basic essentials are a must, but also incorporate special considerations, such as medical needs or medications and pet supplies.  Consider keeping some essentials in your vehicle such as blankets, first aid kits, and flashlights.

Action 3: Practice your emergency plan and refresh supplies

Designate time throughout the year to review and practice your emergency plan, but also check emergency preparedness kits, and refresh any items with expiration dates.  This will ensure you are well prepared in the event of an emergency or disaster.
